When deciding whether or not to get orthodontic treatment, one of the key considerations for most patients is “just how long will I have to wear braces for exactly”?

Orthodontic problems are not just an aesthetic issue. Usually, they cause other, more serious problems, and the improper use of your jaws and teeth have an effect over the entirety of your body.

The ideal time to get braces is after all of the teeth have just erupted, during the time that the wisdom teeth are starting to grow out. Your mouth and teeth will feel different while you are wearing braces, and one of the side effects of wearing braces may be xerostomia, or chronic dryness of the mouth. Although a small worry in and of itself, a drier mouth is more easily infiltrated by bacteria, and is thus good to avoid.
