Have you ever just cleaned your braces and wondered; “what are these made of anyway?” If you have, you are in luck, because we will be talking a little about orthodontic alloys, the stuff braces are made of.

It is well known that those undergoing orthodontic treatment are much more prone to diseases of the oral cavity. They are more likely to experience tooth decay and gum diseases as well. To avoid these problems, dentists usually suggest the use of xylitol, or birch sugar instead of refined, white sugar. But is xylitol really better for us?

When opting to correct your smile and change something about it, there are basically two options you can have: veneers or braces. Although very different methods, there are a bunch of problems that both of them can handle, while there are some problems that only one of them can. I intend to speak a little about both, and then provide some information into which problems can be corrected by which one and how.

While you are in braces, you may have to forget some of your favourite foods for the duration of the treatment. This means that once the braces come off, you can get right back to munching them, but while the braces are on, they are off limits. Below I wish to mention some of the foods, in categories, that are off limits, and also provide a reason why they must not be eaten with braces. Hopefully this will avoid any and all confusion, and give satisfactory answers to what kinds of food cannot be eaten, and why.

The temporo-mandibular joint or TMJ for short is the joint that connects your lower jaw to your upper jaw, it is the joint that moves when you speak, clench or unclench and of course, when you eat. It is one of the most used joint sin your body. Open your mouth and put your finger right in front of your ear. Now close your mouth. You should have felt the temporo-mandibular joint opening and shutting. This joint can be harmed or sick or painful in many ways and from many causes.
